Northwestern student shot Monday night in Rogers Park neighborhood

Northwestern University officials reached out to members of the community after a 19-year-old student was shot Monday night at a park in the Rogers Park neighborhood.

Chicago police said shortly after 10:15 p.m., the student was standing in a park when she was shot in the 1600 block of Howard Avenue. She was taken to Ascension St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where she was treated for wounds to the chest and abdomen, police said.

She was reportedly in good condition, police said.

On Tuesday, staff at Northwestern sent an email saying an undergraduate student was seriously wounded off campus at the Willye B. White Park in the Rogers Park neighborhood. Members of Northwestern’s student affairs were at the hospital Monday night to give support, an email said.

No one was in custody and detectives were investigating.
