In a stunning twist overnight, the Mets and Carlos Correa have agreed to a 12-year contract worth $315 million after the star shortstop’s deal with the San Francisco Giants fell apart, according to reports.
Correa is coming to Queens to play third base for Steve Cohen’s Mets with Francisco Lindor locked in at shortstop.

The Associated Press had reported Tuesday that Correa’s introductory press conference with the Giants was postponed after a medical concern was flagged during the two-time All-Star’s physical. Correa had reportedly agreed to a $350 million, 13-year deal with San Francisco.
Correa will need to pass a physical with the Mets before the deal becomes official.

Correa, the 2015 AL Rookie of the Year, has a .279 career batting average with 155 homers and 553 RBIs in eight big league seasons. He also has been a stellar postseason performer with 18 homers and 59 RBIs in 79 games.
Durability has been the big knock on Correa during his career, only playing more than 150 games in a season once in eight years.
After seven seasons with the Houston Astros, Correa signed with the Minnesota Twins a year ago but opted out of his deal to become a free agent again.
The stunning move comes less than 24 hours after the Mets held a press conference for Justin Verlander, another superstar free agent signing during this wild offseason for a team that won 101 games but was quickly ousted from the playoffs.
If the deal with Correa gets across the finish line, Cohen has committed more than $800 million to free agents since the postseason loss to the Padres. The Mets have re-signed center fielder Brandon Nimmo ($162M) and closer Edwin Diaz ($102M). Verlander ($86.6M), Kodai Senga ($75M) and Jose Quintana ($26M) were inked to boost the starting rotation and Adam Ottavino ($14.5M) and David Robertson ($10M) signed for the bullpen. The team also added catcher Omar Narvaez ($15M).
