An Englewood man has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly wounding a police officer in a shootout over the weekend, Cook County court records show.
Jerome Halsey, 27, also faces charges of aggravated battery and aggravated assault, records show. The case is expected in bond court Tuesday, but it is not immediately clear whether Halsey — who was critically injured in the gunbattle — will be out of the hospital in time to appear for court.

The shooting Sunday was the second time in less than a week that an officer was shot in the Englewood police district. A female officer was wounded during a traffic stop Wednesday in that neighborhood. The next day, a CPD canine officer and a deputy U.S. marshal were wounded during a gun battle on the Northwest Side.
Prosecutors allege in court records that Halsey committed “several traffic violations” while driving in Englewood on Sunday, and officers in an unmarked car followed him trying to get a view of his license plate.

Halsey turned into a driveway, at which point officers parked behind him, the records state. Officers left their car and approached Halsey, who pulled out a gun and fired it at an officer who was approaching the driver’s door, then shot at the officer’s two partners, the records state.
One officer was shot twice, in the arm and the torso, Police Supt. David Brown said over the weekend.
The officers returned fire and Halsey himself was critically wounded, authorities have said.
