New details have emerged surrounding Nets star Kyrie Irving’s minimum five-game suspension for posting the link to an antisemitic film on his social media channels.

Irving, who was deemed “unfit to be associated with the Brooklyn Nets” for repeated failure to issue an apology for his actions, must meet six benchmarks to return to the court this season, according to The Athletic.

Those benchmarks are to:

1. Issue an apology for posting the movie, condemn the harmful and false content and make clear that he does not have anti-Jewish beliefs

2. Complete the anti-hate causes that Irving, the Nets and the Anti-Defamation League agreed upon, plus donate $500,000 to causes and organizations that work to eradicate hate and intolerance in communities

3. Complete sensitivity training created by the Nets

4. Complete antisemitic/anti-hate training created by the Nets

5. Meet with representatives from the Anti-Defamation League and Jewish community leaders in Brooklyn

6. And after meeting the aforementioned benchmarks, Irving must meet with Nets owner Joe Tsai and other franchise officials to prove he understands how harmful his actions were, while also assuring he won’t repeat this kind of behavior

It appears unlikely Irving completes all six of these benchmarks in time to return immediately after his suspension concludes, which would be Nov. 13 against the Los Angeles Lakers. The Nets are 2-0 since Irving’s suspension and face the Dallas Mavericks to complete a three-game road trip on Monday.
