A 17-year-old Geneva girl died Tuesday from injuries sustained when she was struck by a Metra passenger train on the Union Pacific-West line, city officials said.
Geneva police and firefighters were dispatched to the scene underneath the Route 25 vehicle overpass around 6:20 a.m. for a train accident involving a pedestrian, city officials said in a news release.

Upon arrival, emergency responders found the teen on the railroad tracks after she was struck by an eastbound train, officials said. Paramedics could not revive the teen who was unresponsive and not breathing, officials said in the release.
The Metra Police Department and Union Pacific Railroad employees arrived to assist Geneva police with the crash investigation, which closed the tracks for rail traffic for more than two hours in Geneva, LaFox and Elburn. The train line reopened in Geneva around 10 a.m.

Geneva police have not released the teen’s name as of Tuesday afternoon. The Kane County Coroner’s Office has scheduled an autopsy for Wednesday.
