Fox Lake police officers shot and killed a man who lunged at them with a knife during a domestic incident Sunday night, according to the Lake County Major Crime Task Force.

One of the shots struck the woman who reported the incident. She was hit in the leg and was expected to be released from a hospital Monday, the task force said.

The man who was killed is a 47-year-old Wauconda resident. His name has not yet been released by authorities.

The woman, 43, called police to her residence in the 0-100 block of Howard Avenue about 11:10 p.m. and said the man, an acquaintance, had damaged a vehicle and thrown a golf club at her at a nearby residence, and she wished to file charges.

Officers located the man in the woman’s home and told him he was under arrest, the task force said. The man pulled out a knife and pointed it at the officers, according to the task force.

Officers told the man to drop the knife, but instead, he lunged at them with the knife, the task force said. The officers fired, and the man collapsed after he was struck.

The officers rendered aid for the man and the woman until paramedics arrived. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday.

The Fox Lake police called the task force, which will investigate the incident and report its findings to the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office.
