A McHenry man who has served as a youth volleyball coach was arrested Wednesday for soliciting a minor to meet him for sex, according to the Lake County sheriff’s office.
Philip S. Bromley, 44, of the 200 block of Creekside Trail, was taken into custody following a weekslong investigation by sheriff’s office and U.S. Navy investigators.
Police said Bromley for the last several weeks was communicating online with an investigator that he believed was a girl under the age of 14. Bromley, authorities said, enticed the “girl” to meet him for a sexual relationship.
When Bromley traveled to Lake County Wednesday for the meeting, he was taken into custody by sheriff’s detectives.
Police said Bromley has worked as a youth volleyball coach in the McHenry County area. They advised anyone who may have been victimized to contact their local police.
He was charged with indecent solicitation of a child, traveling to meet a minor and grooming.
“We continue to stress the importance to parents and guardians — be vigilant and monitor who your children are talking to on social media,” Sheriff John Idleburg said. “Predators commonly use these applications to entice children.”
