First monument in Chicago to honor a Black woman will be unveiled and dedicated to Ida B. Wells in Bronzeville on Wednesday

Wells was outspoken about the racism, segregation and mistreatment of Black people in America. She educated the public about the issues of education, lynchings, women’s suffrage and much more. In a 1892 speech, she famously said, “The way to right wrongs is to turn the light of truth upon them.”
