Erykah Badu’s ‘Unfollow Me’ Tour Hits Chicago and Detroit This Weekend

Chicago and Detroit hold a special place for Erykah Badu.

“I’m at home,” said the four-time Grammy-winning R&B and Soul artist about performing at those chocolate cities. “I feel like I’m five years old, and no matter what drawing I put up on the refrigerator of Chicago or Detroit, I’m going to be appreciated and encouraged.”

The July 4 holiday weekend is about to be a homecoming as Ms. Badu takes her “Unfollow Me” Tour to Chicago and Detroit on Saturday and Sunday.

Hip-hop artist yasiin bey is performing with her on the 25-city tour. Badu asked the revered Brooklyn emcee to join her because he was simply the right choice.

“There’s no other MC that I would come out with that can anoint the stage in the way I feel necessary this year than yasiin,” she said, “So, I convinced him to come out.”

In case you’re wondering, the tour name “Unfollow Me” acknowledges the “cancel culture” prevalent in today’s society. Still, it also carries a double meaning for Badu, who encourages individuals to unfollow her and pursue their life journeys.

Either way, concertgoers should expect a soulful and surrealist experience from one of our generation’s most accomplished R&B and Soul artists.
