Cook County Circuit Judge Carl Boyd, who is facing a misdemeanor count of domestic battery, was assigned to restricted duties Wednesday, according to a statement from the county’s chief judge.

Boyd, 57, was given a personal recognizance bond and ordered to stay away from his home for a week during a court hearing Wednesday, according to court officials. The Circuit Court of Cook County Executive Committee met Wednesday and Chief Judge Timothy Evans issued an order to assign Boyd to restricted duties or duties other than judicial duties, according to the statement.

“Wednesday’s order was issued to promote public confidence in the integrity and impartiality of the judiciary and is effective immediately,” the statement said.

Evans also asked the Illinois Supreme Court to assign a judge from outside of Cook County to hear Boyd’s criminal case, the statement said.

Up until Boyd’s arrest, Boyd was assigned in the Sixth Municipal District in Markham, the statement said. HIs restricted duties will be in the office of the First Municipal District Presiding Judge E. Kenneth Wright, Jr., according to the statement.

At about 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, a 57-year-old woman told police that Boyd, 57, threw a bottle at a glass door window, causing the window to break in the 10700 block of South Seeley Avenue, Chicago police said. Police reported that a woman there suffered a large cut to the left side of her face from the glass.

Boyd’s next court date is Sept. 28.

An attorney for Boyd did not return messages seeking comment.
