Cook County Board Approves Funding to Improve Transportation

The Cook County Board of Commissioners approved funding on Friday (March 1) for transportation-related projects for the County’s Department of Transportation and Highways. These vital projects boost economic development, build up regional transportation and improve the quality of life throughout Cook County.

 

Alsip | $15,000

Professional planning services for the Pedestrian and Cycling Mobility Improvements Planning Study. The study is the initial step to allow the village to increase access to public transit, schools, parks and businesses while improving ADA accessibility and the overall safety of neighborhoods.

Barrington | $42,542

Construction of Prairie Avenue sidewalk with ADA accessibility improvements serving Grove Elementary School.

Bellwood | $651,910

Reconstruction of Maywood Drive from 25th Avenue to the eastern limit of the village with the addition of a new bike path.

Chicago | $575,000

Professional planning services to advance the Better Streets for Buses bus priority project in partnership with the Chicago Transit Authority and Chicago Department of Transportation to improve bus speed and reliability.

Des Plaines  | $75,000

Professional engineering services for a shared use path for pedestrians and bicyclists along Devon Avenue from Stillwell Avenue to Des Plaines River Road, completing a critical gap in the existing network.

East Hazel Crest  | $180,000

Professional design services for a shared use path for pedestrians and bicyclists along 172nd Street from Ashland Avenue to Lathrop Avenue, providing a new 0.75-mile connection for residents.

LaGrange | $250,000

Construction improvements along Shawmut Avenue and Brainard Avenue to enhance stormwater management, ADA accessibility and improve safety along these corridors.

Niles | $132,500

Professional design services for a safety project along Shermer Road between Waukegan and Dempster Roads to reduce vehicular crashes and provide safe streets for pedestrians and cyclists.

Tinley Park | $19,587,468

Reconstruction of Oak Forest Avenue, Ridgeland Avenue and 175th Street, providing improved storm water management, a new shared pedestrian and bicycle path, new turn lanes and traffic signals.

Western Springs | $55,000

Professional design services for the resurfacing of Gilbert Avenue and the reconstruction of ADA sidewalk ramps along the corridor.

Wilmette | $40,000

Professional planning services for the North Shore Channel Trail Feasibility Study Project to evaluate future trail connections to eliminate a nearly 1.5-mile gap in the system.
