College football’s 2nd signing period begins: How did the classes wrap up for Notre Dame, Illinois and Northwestern and where do they rank?

The Irish signed their entire class in the early period, with 12 players already enrolled in South Bend, Ind. Their biggest addition since December was the transfer of Northwestern safety Brandon Joseph, a first-team All-American as a redshirt freshman in 2020, when he tied for the national lead with six interceptions in nine games. Coach Marcus Freeman also reached into the transfer portal for Arkansas State kicker Blake Grupe, the Sun Belt Conference’s career co-leader with 64 field goals over the last four seasons.
