After months of fighting between Black and Latino City Council members over how the city’s 50 ward boundaries will be drawn for the next decade, aldermen say they’ve reached agreement on the new map. The map helps dictate power and influence on the council and an agreement among the council members means a decision about the ward boundaries will not go to voters at the end of June.

If the full council passes this proposal with at least 41 votes before May 20, these will become the city’s new ward boundaries starting with the 2023 municipal election and lasting until the 2030 U.S. Census triggers yet another realignment fight.
