CHICAGO (February 3, 2023) — The Chicago Sky announced today the team has signed center/forward Elizabeth Williams. Per team policy, the terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
“We are so excited to have Elizabeth in a Chicago Sky uniform,” Chicago Sky General Manager and Head Coach James Wade said. “For as long as she’s been in the league, she’s been the epitome of a player that is a hard worker, a great leader and embodies the values of the WNBA. We know that she will be a valuable piece to everything that we are creating in Chicago.”
Williams, born in Colchester, Essex, England, joins the Sky after being drafted fourth overall by Connecticut in the 2015 WNBA Draft. She spent six seasons with the Atlanta Dream, where she earned WNBA All-Defensive Team honors in 2020 and was named WNBA Most Improved Player in 2016, before spending the 2022 season with the Washington Mystics. In 2016, Williams also received the WNBA Cares Community Assist Award for the month of June for efforts to encourage youth education and literacy in the greater Atlanta area.
During the recent 2022 season, Williams tied a career-high 13 defensive rebounds (twice), recorded a double-double on the season, five double-digit point games and also tallied a block in 13 games, tied for the second-most on the team. Over the course of her playoff appearances, she averaged 9.6 points and 8.8 rebounds in 29.5 minutes of action.
Williams also tied a franchise-high six blocks on May 31, and during that game, became the second player in WNBA history to record more than 15 rebounds and five blocks in a single game.
She is currently playing overseas for CBK Mersin, averaging 13.0 points and leading a team-best 13.0 rebounds in 30.0 minutes during the KBSL season in Turkey. She was also named EuroLeague Women Defensive Player of the Year for the 2021-22 season with Fenerbahçe Spor Kulübü in Turkey.
The 6’3” center/forward spent four years collegiately at Duke and became the first four-time AP All-American in ACC history and the eighth ever in NCAA history. As a Blue Devil, she was named four-time ACC Defensive Player of the Year, four-time First Team All-ACC and became second in ACC history with 426 career blocks. She graduated from Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
