“He’s been checking in, checking in on my family, which you appreciate, and it allows you to form a connection outside of football,” Nichols said. “And that is very important. And then when we come in here, he pushes me. He pushes me past my limits, and I appreciate that. I’m a guy that has high goals for myself, and he wants me to reach those goals, so I appreciate that from him.”
“The way she did it inside-outside, she was unconscious,” U.S. coach Dawn Staley said. “She took great shots and was efficient. We knew Stewie can score, but it was her defensive effort. She chased those guards around, something she doesn’t do a whole lot. Deflections, blocked shots, made plays. super proud of the all around effort she gave us.”

With Jenkins out, veteran Elijah Wilkinson had been working at left tackle with the first-team offense during the first week of practice. But Wilkinson also was absent Tuesday, with the team declining to provide a reason. That gave rookie Larry Borom, a fifth-round pick out of Missouri, a window of opportunity to test himself on the left side against the starting defense.
