Jackson was at his best under Fangio in 2018, earning first-team All-Pro honors after recording six interceptions, forcing two fumbles and scoring three touchdowns. As a whole, the Bears defense was dominant that season, leading the NFL in takeaways (36), interceptions (27) and points allowed (17.7) while also recording an NFC-best 50 sacks. Internally, many of the players that were around that year believe having Desai at the controls can help propel the defense to those levels of production.

So just going back to that, not trying to do too much, which I did at (Triple-A) Iowa but it ended up working out anyway. And then come up here and try to get back to a good rhythm, getting some consistent at-bats these last two days and go from there.”
The always helpful Marquee Sports Network pointed this fact out with a graphic Monday on “notable Cubs players who have been traded,” listing Báez, Bryant, Rizzo, Craig Kimbrel, Greg Maddux, Billy Williams, Fergie Jenkins and Ron Santo. Sammy Sosa, who hit 545 home runs as a Cub before being dealt to the Baltimore Orioles in 2005, did not make the list for reasons we only can guess at.
“We’re just all running fast right now so, you know, the timing and everything, the couple of practices we had,” said Baker, who ran 9.95 seconds to finish fifth in the men’s 100 last weekend. “Trying to time that up perfectly with a couple of practices is a little difficult, but it is what it is.”
He surrendered three home runs: a solo home run to Edward Olivares in the second, a two-run homer to Salvador Perez in the third and a solo shot to Michael A. Taylor in the fourth. Ryan O’Hearn hit a two-run homer off reliever José Ruiz in the seventh.
“(Garrett) Crochet and (Michael) Kopech have pure power stuff. Liam and Craig can go out there and dominate opposing hitters. Tepera and myself, José (Ruiz), Lopey (Reynaldo López), (Evan) Marshall, all these guys, they all excel at a lot of things. And being able to mix and match with guys and put them in plus matchups, it’s a recipe for success.”
At his best, Ogletree was a reliable starter and a well-liked teammate in the middle of the defense. His best season came in 2016 when he recorded 131 tackles with 11 passes defensed and two interceptions. In 2018, Ogletree recorded a career-high five interceptions, including one off Bears quarterback Chase Daniel that he returned for a touchdown.
