The Sox took a two-run lead in the first inning against right-hander Adbert Alzolay, and five pitchers combined to shut out the Cubs in a 4-0 victory Saturday. After blowing a save Friday in his return to Wrigley, Craig Kimbrel threw a perfect eighth with two strikeouts, and fellow former Cubs reliever Ryan Tepera kept them off the board in the ninth to secure the Sox win.

She said she had lost all feeling in her neck and her arms by the end. Well after she crossed the finish, she was sitting beneath the bleachers, spitting up into a cup. She walked away with gold in the 5 and 10K, a bronze in the 1,500, and hopefully an ice bath in her very near future.

“Typically after every play, completion or no completion, I’m making sure I’m where Andy wants me,” Robinson said. “It’s been very smooth. … He’s taken a lot of snaps. He’s played a lot of football in this league. (I can tap into) the things he sees, the things he likes. It may be how this certain route was run, how that route is ran. It really helps you play free as a receiver just knowing that OK, this is what he wants.”

Nobody thought we would get this far. I looked at some posts on social media as we were putting the team together and they called it a ‘throwback’ team, which I thought was kinda humorous. But with that throwback you’ve got a lot of experience, a lot of leadership within that clubhouse. We were able to come together with the young guys and make it here. And not only make it here, but come out and get a medal. We fell short of what we wanted, but I think we exceeded a lot of other people’s expectations.

The team used up its cap space to surround him with a better roster, which means they won’t be able to offer LaVine a contract extension close to his value this summer. He’s going to be the fourth-highest paid player on his own team this season in the final year of a four-year, $78 million deal. That sets him up to be an unrestricted free agent next summer, and while he says he wants “his respect,” both he and the Bulls seem to be on the same page. The team is trying to win and LaVine has reiterated, often, that he wants to be a part of a winning team.

Let’s get this out of the way: The lake can be cold. You snap on a pair of water shoes on a warm summer day and step gingerly into the clear Lake Superior waters of Madeline Island’s Big Bay. Edging ever deeper, though, is a process. You inhale sharply with every step, advancing to your waist, your chest, your shoulders — and finally, full submersion. But once your body adjusts to the shock, the feeling is completely invigorating. Curative. As summer vacation returns with a vengeance, the Midwest’s best beaches will provide a no-frills escape this year. These aren’t the Gulf Stream waters, and this certainly isn’t the Caribbean. But from the Great Lakes to the 10,000 Lakes, the best beaches of the “North Coast” are collectively like our Caribbean. So don’t let the coastal elites tell you that the Midwest has no beaches. They have no idea. Here, we share 12 of our favorites. By Simon Peter Groebner and Kerri Westenberg, Star Tribune Jun 28, 2021

The Bears, who also have to fill a hole at nickel this month, drafted Vildor in the fifth round in 2020 out of Georgia Southern, with whom he had nine interceptions, 33 passes defended, 95 tackles and nine tackles for a loss in four seasons. That included an interception and pass breakup against Clemson in 2018 to first grab the attention of the Bears scouting staff, who viewed him as quick, athletic and able to play in the slot or outside.
