“A guy throwing that hard, upper 90s to a hundred mph, you really just want to have your foot down as early as possible,” Goodwin said. “You want to be in position to hit the fastball with somebody that’s fastball-reliant, which he was. Also getting your foot down helps you to be able to recognize breaking balls a little bit sooner and be in position to put a good swing on it. That’s kind of where I was at, looking for the heater but reacting to the breaking stuff.”

The parade is the unofficial back-to-school kickoff and the oldest African-American parade in the country. Parker, who grew up in Naperville, will join a long list of stars who have participated in the event, including Michael Jordan, Muhammad Ali and Nat King Cole.
Fifteen minutes later, a mix of cheers from Cubs fans and boos from Sox fans among the crowd of 39,539 enveloped Kimbrel as he walked off the mound, pulled in the middle of the eighth. Moments earlier, Cubs shortstop Andrew Romine hit a game-tying, three-run homer off Kimbrel. The home run was as stunning as unlikely: Before that fateful pitch, Kimbrel had allowed only two earned runs in 39⅓ innings this season with nearly two years passing since he last surrendered three runs in an outing.
“They call the game, basically — they call the pitches, they call the defense. That’s a very important position. And because she’s a Reyes, she’s got fire and she’s got an arm, too, I’m cool with her being my catcher. The team responds because they know Khloe knows what she’s talking about,” Jones said. He says out of the 21 years he’s been coaching, Kloey is the most intelligent player he’s ever coached.
Without spectators and the roar of a crowd due to the pandemic, photographers were some of the only people in quiet stadiums who witnessed the world’s greatest athletes up close. The best events here had moments of peak drama and elation, though there was often complete silence just before and after the competition.

“His two-strike numbers have been really (good), controlling the zone, mainly for the things he’s done against right-handed pitching has been really obvious,” Ross said. “And when you put up numbers and consistent numbers and be able to do those quality things, that matters. So the next step is, can you do it at this level and how consistent can you be here doing those things?
