“When you have a guy like David who is a run-hard kind of guy and he’s going to get those hard yards, that’s what everyone is expecting,” Williams said. “And me being who I am, that’s how I carry myself as well. We are going to go in here and get these hard yards and keep going. And (Herbert) had that same mentality.”

So, yeah, maybe that was part of the reason the music remained loud and stayed on for quite a while as the Bears danced their way out of the desert. Wild things tend to happen in Las Vegas. And while the Bears’ win near the Strip wasn’t worthy of a massive marquee and shouldn’t register as stunning, it was, without question, an energizing triumph for a team that played with obvious focus and toughness.

“I’ve met a lot of people, sometimes it gets a little annoying, like, I’ll be at the game, and there will just be random people. They come up and I don’t even know who they are. They say, ‘Hey, James,’ because they see me and people post memes with me on the page and stuff. So they recognize my face, and I’m like, ‘Who the hell are you?’” he laughed. “But I don’t mind, and it is nice because you get to know people.”

“We have played very well at home, and I do think the crowd has been helpful that way,” Sox manager Tony La Russa said. “They like this club a lot, love this club. They really have embraced them, and we’ve got a real shot to make this a series.

Three plays later, D’Andre Swift had the Lions in the end zone with a 7-yard run. Instead of settling for the tie, Campbell kept the offense on the field. Jared Goff, who had turnovers to end two drives inside the 30, zinged a pass to KhaDarel Hodge on a crossing route in front of the goal post for the lead.

Candace Parker, a two-time league MVP, returned home to Chicago this season after playing her first 13 seasons in Los Angeles and has been a key reason the Sky reached the finals, finishing with 17 points, nine rebounds and seven assists in the clinching game against the Connecticut Sun in the semifinals. The 35-year-old was honored as one of the WNBA’s greatest players during a ceremony after the first quarter of Game 1.

Raiders quarterback Derek Carr hit Darren Waller for a 29-yard pass to get the drive going. On third-and-7 from the 16-yard line, running back Kenyan Drake gained 8 yards. But after a 5-yard Josh Jacobs run, the Raiders were called for a holding penalty. Carr then threw two straight incompletions, and the Raiders turned to Carlson.
