Donovan acknowledged the recent losses of defensive stalwart Alex Caruso, out with a foot sprain, and Ball, who returned Monday from health and safety protocols. But he added the Bulls need to play better collectively on defense, which was their calling card before Caruso’s injury. The Bulls have taken a conservative approach with Caruso’s return, though he seems ready to go.
The quickest and most efficient method would be to stop trading up in the draft so often. The Bears have done that many times under Pace, dealing up for quarterbacks Mitch Trubisky and Justin Fields, outside linebacker Leonard Floyd, linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski, free safety Eddie Jackson, running back David Montgomery, wide receivers Anthony Miller and Darnell Mooney and offensive tackle Teven Jenkins.

Jonathan Toews scored for the first time since that same Dec. 17 game and DeBrincat scored two goals 40 seconds apart, but all of those efforts couldn’t change the bottom line: The Hawks lost their fifth straight game, a 4-3 overtime setback to the Avalanche at the United Center in the teams’ first meeting since the Avs beat the Hawks 4-1 in the season opener in Denver.
“(Kirck) said nothing, not a word,” Lipka told the Record-Journal of the postgame scene. “We walked through the (handshake) line, and we didn’t look in their faces. I know their (athletic director) was there and nothing was done to stop it. I just hope something is done that sends a message that this should never be done again.”

“If you look at the numbers (for) rebounding, transition defense, those things had skyrocketed for us over the last 10 games,” Donovan said. “You get on a winning streak and all of a sudden you don’t even think about any of these other things. I didn’t think defensively we were going in the right direction.”
In any just world, Dan Snyder’s “clown show organization,” as Giants head coach Joe Judge would put it, would be heavily sanctioned, both for their negligence with the railing and their callousness towards the injured fans. In this one, the collapse will probably be a key plank of a successful lobbying campaign for the publicly funded new stadium Snyder has always wanted.

Desai has had the respect of most of his players since his promotion to coordinator last winter. And since joining the Bears as a defensive quality control coach in 2013, he has survived two head coaching changes. Depending on which way the Bears turn in their search for a new coach, perhaps Desai would make a convincing case to stick around.
