It’s unknown how Poles, his staff and the coaches evaluated Jackson on film from 2021, but the safety wasn’t an impact player, and the tape certainly doesn’t say $11 million. That salary would make trading him a challenge. The Bears could approach Jackson about a pay reduction, but it’s unknown how he would react. Releasing him would create $18.56 million in dead cap space, more than the space he would take up on the roster.

Jalen Pickett added 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists for Penn State. John Harrar had 12 points and nine rebounds. Myles Dread also chipped in 12 points for the Nittany Lions, who shot 32% (9 of 28) in the first half but 61.5% (16 of 26) in the second.
The Hawks came up empty on their first two power plays, but Coyle hooked Dylan Strome in the third, and Hagel tied the game 3-3, cleaning up DeBrincat’s rebound. Hagel has five points in his last three games, and his two goals gave him 20 on the season, surpassing Kane for second on the team behind DeBrincat (34).

“No matter the time of year, we try to function in a way that we’re prepared to move quickly when an opportunity presents itself,” Hahn said Dec. 1, hours before the lockout began. “We have an idea, whether it’s on the trade or free-agent front, what we feel is appropriate from a cost standpoint, and when those opportunities arise, we’re prepared to move. If it happens to be that things are on pause for a little bit, when we come back, we’ll be ready to go.”
Players on the 40-man roster, including Cubs teammates Patrick Wisdom and Nico Hoerner, again worked out at the MLBPA’s setup in Mesa, Ariz., Thursday morning. Hours before a deal was announced, both were optimistic an agreement would be in place soon. Hoerner admitted to being on Twitter more frequently the last couple days to track updates.
Outfielder Avisaíl García, who led the Brewers in home runs (a career-high 29) and RBIs (86) in 2021, signed a four-year deal with the Marlins. Infielder Eduardo Escobar, who was acquired in July in a trade with the Diamondbacks, signed a two-year contract with theMets.
“Any rule that we have, we’ve talked about changing: Change the bats, change the balls, change the bases, change the geometry of the field, change the number of players on the field, change the batting order, change the number of innings, the number of balls and strikes,” Sword said. “We talked about regulating the height of grass on the infield to speed up ground balls and create more hits. We’ve never talked about this in any serious way, but we talked about allowing fans to throw home-run balls back and keep them in play. That’s one that I don’t even like.”
Now, Mack will be paired with Joey Bosa playing for Chargers coach Brandon Staley, who was the Bears’ outside linebackers coach in 2018. The Bears still have Robert Quinn, who is coming off an 18½-sack season, and this could potentially create a larger role for Trevis Gipson, who had seven sacks last year in his second season.
