Police said they interviewed more than 20 witnesses, including employees, customers and the two men directly involved. Police also reviewed multiple videos, including a video that spread on social media, and security camera footage provided by Portillo’s, officials said.

Jerryon Stevens, of Humboldt Park, was charged in the shooting, which took place Dec. 22 in the 700 block of North Ridgeway Avenue, Chicago police announced Wednesday. The victim was identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office as Jim Courtney-Clarks, 20.
The state’s health department has identified more than 9,400 variant cases of the virus in Illinois, more than 6,300 of which are the Alpha variant, first found in the United Kingdom. The next biggest slice comes from the Gamma variant, first identified in travelers from Brazil, with more than 2,400 cases.
“When we think about racism, many of us think about its visible and audible forms,” Lightfoot said. “But the reality is, the insidious nature of systemic racism has other impacts that are every bit as deep and harmful but are often ones we can’t see, like impacts on the psyche and other impacts on our bodies that are just as, if not more, deadly.”
Vaccines will be offered on the “Vaccination Station,” a mobile bus that will be parked outside of “L” stations, as part of city’s effort to increase vaccine access, especially in neighborhoods with lower vaccination rates. Pfizer will be available to those 12 years old and up, and Johnson & Johnson to those 18 and up. People under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
