If Ald. Chris Taliaferro, the Public Safety committee’s chairman, doesn’t schedule another meeting before Wednesday’s council meeting, sponsors of the grassroots plan could use a parliamentary maneuver to try to force their revised plan to the floor for an up-or=down vote. Such a move, however, would face stiff opposition from Lightfoot.

Chances of thunderstorms persist throughout the weekend, with an elevated risk on Sunday, the weather service said. The sticky, hot weather is expected to shift Monday as temperatures fall, with highs in the mid-70s and lows in the 50s, according to the weather service.
The Illinois EPA said the foam initially used was a “flourinated surfactant” that could contain PFOA, or perfluorooctanoic acid, and PFHxA, or perfluorohexanoic acid. Both are among some 5,000 PFAS compounds with oil- and water-resistant properties used in clothing, furniture, cookware, food packaging, cosmetics and other goods.

Four people were inside a vehicle when state police responded that morning, and two had been struck by gunfire — the driver, a 21-year-old woman, and a 19-year-old passenger in the back seat. The 19-year-old woman, from Elgin, later died at a hospital, state police said.
