One of the friends was driving his vehicle eastbound on North Avenue, just east of Spaulding Avenue, when several people started walking around his vehicle, prosecutors said. Ayala was one of those people, and he began throwing up gang signs and shouting at them, asking where they were from, prosecutors said.
The tornado watch was issued at 12:06 p.m. until 7 p.m. for the following Illinois counties: Livingston, Ford, Iroquois, Cook, DuPage, Grundy, Kankakee and Will. It also includes these counties in northwest Indiana: Benton, Jasper, Lake, Newton and Porter.
Edmond Harris, 18, is accused of killing Javier Ramos, 46, on March 23 and was taken into federal custody Friday morning. Harris had an initial appearance Friday afternoon, where he pleaded not guilty to carjacking, discharging a firearm during a crime of violence and causing death through the use of a firearm, Joseph D. Fitzpatrick, assistant U.S. attorney of the Northern District of Illinois said in a news release.
The older man suffered a wound to the chest and leg, and was taken in critical condition to St. Francis Hospital i n Evanston. Two men, ages 20 to 25, suffered gunshots to the right leg, and got themselves to Swedish Covenant Hospital. A fourth victim, 25, was shot in the stomach, and got himself to Evanston Hospital, police said.
Tony Robinson, 41, is also linked to another attack on June 13 in the first block of East Congress Parkway, where Chicago police said he struck a 50-year-old woman in the head and robbed her. In total, he is charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery with a dangerous weapon and three counts of aggravated battery.

“Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the district utilized alternative methods of instruction for students who required home or hospital-based instruction and other services, but these were not deemed as ‘remote instruction,’” CPS spokesman James Gherardi said Thursday, adding that the term was “specifically utilized during the pandemic to describe school or districtwide home-based instruction to ensure the safety of all students and staff.”
Before the pandemic, liquor stores in Chicago were allowed to sell most types of alcohol until 2 a.m. or later. There have been efforts in recent years by some aldermen concerned about violence and loitering near liquor stores to set earlier hours, but those proposals have not gained much traction.
Additional police units, including some from the Plainfield Police Department, were called to the area and an initial traffic stop occurred near 119th Street and Route 59 in Plainfield, the report said. The suspect then fled the scene, and was stopped again near 135th Street and Route 59 in Plainfield, where he was taken into custody.
