This fall, CPS will have 16,020 preschool seats available, the district said in a news release. For the 2020-21 school year, private preschools in Chicago served more than 54,000 children, according to Private School Review, which compiles school-reported enrollment data from private schools across the nation. But the financial burden of losing enrollment, plus the increased cost of caring for infant children, has left many child care centers hastening to adjust their model to account for losing students to CPS pre-K.
The victims were two 21-year-old men, a 19-year-old man, a 15-year-old boy and an additional man, who were all stabilized at area hospitals, police said. The sixth victim, who police said was female but not yet identified, was in critical condition, according to police.

Martinez’s court-appointed attorney, Courtney Smallwood, argued against denying bail, saying her client didn’t make any admissions to police after his arrest, adding that his statement claiming to have shot a girl wasn’t anywhere in police paperwork. “Presumably, if my client had made admissions, that would be an important fact that you would want to highlight in a report,” she argued.
“We want to take Pride back to its roots, which was (to) protest against police brutality, racism and war,” said Andy Thayer, co-founder of the Gay Liberation Network. “It was truly a people’s uprising, as opposed to a parade of bar floats and banks and politicians.”
