The Lake County Health Department urges residents to follow the “4 Ds of Defense” to protect themselves from West Nile virus: Drain standing water from around their homes; defend themselves by using insect repellent; dress in long sleeves, pants and closed toed shoes when outdoors; and protect themselves throughout the day, making sure to wear insect repellent at dawn and dusk. Repellent should contain DEET, picaridin, oil of lemon, eucalyptus, 2-undecanone, or IR3535 and be reapplied according to label instructions.

This fall, CPS will have 16,020 preschool seats available, the district said in a news release. For the 2020-21 school year, private preschools in Chicago served more than 54,000 children, according to Private School Review, which compiles school-reported enrollment data from private schools across the nation. Martinez’s court-appointed attorney, Courtney Smallwood, argued against denying bail, saying her client didn’t make any admissions to police after his arrest, adding that his statement claiming to have shot a girl wasn’t anywhere in police paperwork. “Presumably, if my client had made admissions, that would be an important fact that you would want to highlight in a report,” she argued.
