The Chicago Fire Department responded to a report of a man in the channel near Bryn Mawr and Kedzie avenues Tuesday afternoon, said Walter Schroeder, a Chicago fire district chief. The man was identified as Luis Avilez, of the 5600 block of North St. Louis Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Police said crews were called to the scene about 5:10 p.m.
“Normally we’d handle shootings on the expressway, so we’re deciding who’s going to lead the investigation,” he said, explaining that he did not know the exact location of the shooting. “It’s possible it was on the ramp to 119th (Street).”
“Chinatown is coming back to the way it was,” Yu Xin Feng, 74, said through a translator at the Pui Tak Center, where he and his wife, He Yu Yong, 73, were receiving their second round of vaccinations. Feng said he felt less anxiety about getting sick or traveling this summer.

Biden made a trip to LaCrosse, Wisconsin, last week to promote a bipartisan deal on infrastructure. Western Wisconsin is a key swing area in the key swing state of Wisconsin. Democrat U.S. Rep. Ron Kind narrowly held onto his seat representing the western Wisconsin district, which Biden lost to Trump. The president, however, kept the margins close enough there to defeat Trump in a state the former president won in 2016.

Police said they responded at about 2 p.m. to a report of a single-car crash on Vollmer Road between Cicero and Crawford avenues, and a preliminary investigation showed the car left the road and came to rest in some brush near the entrance of Vollmer Road Grove, west of Crawford.
“The state describes you in possession in a hotel room of a rifle with a laser scope … overlooking Ohio Street Beach,” Navarro said, and then paused. “I understand through the state’s proffer and your attorney that you have permission to possess the firearms in the state of Iowa. However, clearly, we’re not in Iowa.”

“We’ve talked about this a lot,” Arwady said during her regular online Q-and-A session about the pandemic. “The basic answer is that even before we had a vaccine available, we saw that where you have appropriate COVID precautions in place, schools have not been sources of outbreaks. They have not really contributed to community spread significantly. And we’ve seen such negative impacts, particularly in the youngest children, where a lot of the social, emotional learning, a lot of the needs where young children have struggled with trying to learn via Zoom.”
