Democratic Rep. Don Vruwink, who taught history at Milton High School and coached basketball, football and softball, said he estimated that he’s heard the national anthem at least 2,500 times. Requiring the anthem to be played before every game on virtually every field on the state will devalue the meaning of the anthem, and is also unworkable.
Deangelo Watson, 20, is charged with first-degree murder in the killing Saturday of Robert Hogin, 36, at his home in the 600 block of North Homan Avenue, according to authorities. Watson, who lives in the 700 block of North Homan Avenue, has known Hogin for years from the neighborhood, prosecutors said Tuesday.

But just as she was pulling out from the church building about 12:30 p.m., at Mozart Avenue and 147th Street, a stolen Dodge Charger struck Odneal’s vehicle, killing her upon impact, said Posen Mayor Frank Podbielniak. She was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center as paramedics attempted to revive her, the mayor said, but she was pronounced dead at 1:33 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
