Tuesday’s change to Chicago’s travel advisory means there are now 45 states and two territories under Chicago’s travel advisory. California, Connecticut and Puerto Rico are the only other areas not subject to the recommended COVID-19 mitigations for unvaccinated travelers. Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland and Mississippi might get off the list next week.

Jovan McPherson, of the 400 block of South Sherman Avenue in Elgin, has been charged on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery of a police officer, unlawful use of a firearm and resisting arrest, all in connection with the 3:30 p.m. shooting in the 1000 block of West North Avenue. The shooting left one officer with a “through and through” gunshot wound to his face, police Superintendent David Brown said at the time. McPherson allegedly fought with a second officer who eventually arrested him.
Segura-Rodriguez’s attorney, Assistant Public Defender Stephen Journey, stressed to the jury that his client is not accused of having personally hurt anyone. It was Toscano who slit the men’s throats and Ibarra, now deceased, who shot the officer, he noted.

An officer “aggressively approached” Smith and “got in his face telling him to leave,” according to the claim. As Smith turned to leave, the same officer “pushed him from behind, and several officers took him to the ground,” according to the claim, which resulted in a chipped tooth and other injuries.
