A Cicero firefighter was hospitalized with or se first- and second-degree burns after he fell through the first floor to the basement while fighting a house fire Friday morning, and three other firefighters sustained minor burns rescuing him, a town spokesman said.
The Tribune reported earlier this month that, in addition to the criminal charges, Thornley is under scrutiny by Pritzker administration officials and the attorney general’s office after she collected more than $71,000 in workers’ compensation and disability benefits tied to her unsubstantiated allegations of sexual assault.
There are only 1,000 to 2,000 reindeer in the United States, many of them purchased in small numbers by people with farming backgrounds who fall in love with the animals, according to Jeff Phillips, central region director for the 110-member Reindeer Owners & Breeders Association (ROBA). Growth has been slow but steady since the early 1990s, Phillips said, and today there are about 25 reindeer farms in Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota.

Some states have laws limiting medication abortion by gestational age, some have bans on the mail-ordering of abortion pills and others have in-person requirements for medication abortion. In about 30 states, only physicians are allowed to provide medication abortions, whereas many other states, including Illinois, permit advanced practice clinicians to do so.
The president and chief operating officer of Churchill Downs, Bill Mudd, said the company was looking for another site in Illinois where it could hold live racing, but would not specify any potential locations. He noted that the two remaining tracks in the state, Hawthorne and Fairmount, despite plans to open racinos, have not done so in the two years since the law allowed it.

“When I started doing this work, you know, I was very naive, and really felt like, ‘let’s talk to them. Maybe if we tell them our story, they’ll have a heart and they’ll hear,’ ” Ortiz said. “But after almost a decade of doing this work, I mean, you’re not really surprised … because there’s no accountability. They don’t feel responsible to the community.”
En route, he told Thomas that he “lost it,” justifying why he killed her, Thomas said at trial. After he was given immunity, he led police to the area where her body was found at the Thornton-Lansing Road Forest Preserve in unincorporated Cook County, Illinois, on Aug. 12.
“What’s happening, and I think the concern (the health department) had, was those meals, those kids’ meals, were reflexively being given really high-caloric, very high sugary drinks, like sodas … like Slurpee-type drinks,” Lightfoot said. “What we want is to give kids healthy things.”
