The lawsuit maintains that if Williams’ spinal condition been treated earlier, she would not have been left paralyzed. But doctors and nurses failed to take down her medical history, discontinued necessary treatment, did not recognize her symptoms, performed surgery too late and made other errors, the suit alleges.
“Harris’ sexual assault of this boy in such a public place, in an unlocked public bathroom, during an event attended by dozens of responsible adults demonstrates that Harris either does not care about being caught committing his offenses, or simply cannot stop himself,” the prosecution filing stated.
Announced last fall, the pilot will serve as an alternative for misconduct complaints, which usually lead to a COPA investigation. For certain situations, such as perceived bias or failures to provide service, the new program will have the complainant and police officer meet face-to-face with the assistance of a mediator to hash out the issue, according to a city news release.
Under Illinois law, “a person commits a hate crime when, by reason of the actual or perceived race, color, creed, religion, ancestry, gender, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, citizenship, immigration status, or national origin of another individual or group of individuals.”
“When UIC announced its intent to leave the Horizon League at the end of the 2021-22 season, UIC chose not to comply with the League’s Bylaw requiring that written notice of such intention must be received on or before July 1 one year before the withdrawal date,” the Horizon League’s statement continued. “In this instance, UIC needed to provide notice before July 1, 2022 and remain a member until July 1, 2023 to be in compliance with League Bylaws and preserve 2022 championship opportunities for UIC teams.”
But COVID-19 hospitalization figures have dropped dramatically in recent weeks. As of Monday night, Illinois hospitals reported about 2,600 hospitalized with the virus, far less than the peak four weeks earlier of 7,380, but still above the weekly averages of 1,650 last May when Pritzker loosened emergency orders to allow vaccinated people to go maskless indoors in public, and the 760 average when he lifted the mandate for everyone else last June.
Vrdolyak, following several pandemic-related delays, only began serving his 18-month sentence on Nov. 30 at a federal medical facility in Rochester, Minnesota, with access to Mayo Clinic. He is not scheduled to be released from the custody of the Bureau of Prisons until March 2023, when he would be 85.
According to police, officers responding to a call of gunshots fired at 219 N. Grace Ave. around 8:10 p.m. found the man lying on the ground outside the apartment building with “multiple” gunshot wounds. The man was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge where he died from his injuries, police said.
