Since Illinois legalized sales of the plant in 2020, this was the first 420 with few COVID restrictions, resulting in a long list of 420 events in the Chicago area. Under state law, marijuana may not be sold at cannabis expos and 420 festivals, and people may not consume it in public. Only licensed dispensaries may sell it, and even then, they can’t let people see, touch, or smell the product, lending a sometimes antiseptic air to the proceedings.

The CDC had recently extended the mask mandate, which was set to expire Monday, until May 3 to allow more time to study the BA.2 omicron subvariant, which is now responsible for the vast majority of U.S. cases. But the court ruling Monday had put that decision on hold.
In the letter, Sigcho-Lopez stopped short of asking Wood to reject the deal, which will likely leave Solis with a clean slate in three years if he continues to cooperate with the government. Instead, he urged the judge to consider “scaled and appropriate penalties” that reflect the seriousness of Solis’ conduct.
“Unfortunately, it is not technically feasible to cut, lift, and remove the wall intact,” Bolton said in the statement. “Attempting to remove an interior wall intact would pose a significant safety risk to workers and could cause other segments of the structurally comprised building to collapse.”
The intersection, though busy, is relatively safe and was not then a cause for accidents. Indeed, the Illinois Department of Transportation — the final authority in whether or not to allow the cameras along a state highway — initially rejected the plan because, they said, the intersection was too safe. However, IDOT changed its tune and overruled local objection, allowing the cameras to fine motorists.
Far South Side Ald. Sue Sadlowski Garza, 10th, voted no on Wednesday, saying the money should go to something “more sustainable,” such as mental health services. “I don’t think this is a good move. You’ve got a car, you’re filling it up twice and it’s over,” Sadlowski Garza said.
