Fragrant sumac (Rhus aromatica) is a low-growing shrub, about 2 to 4 feet high, that suckers to form dense thickets. The glossy green leaves turn brilliant red in fall. It’s a sturdy, tolerant plant that can handle part-shade as well as full sun. “Fragrant sumac can be attractive in a garden, if you have a place where you can let it spread,” Janoski said. “It might do well along a driveway, for example.” A popular cultivated variety is Gro-low (Rhus aromatica ‘Gro-low’).

In recent days, staffers also frantically worked to help those still in Afghanistan, calling legislators and the State Department to help Illinois residents or family members get to the Kabul airport and safely out of the country. Chicago volunteers from RefugeeOne also traveled to a Virginia military base to help process arriving refugees. Gasoline tends to carry a static electric charge, and this charge can build up on the can as it is being filled. If the can is sitting on concrete or the ground, the static charge can safely flow away. Since plastic is an insulator, the static electricity can build up. A spark can then occur between the gas can and the fuel nozzle and ignite the gasoline vapor near the open mouth of the can if conditions are right.
