The mansion has eight full bathrooms, three half bathrooms, five fireplaces, walnut plank flooring, ceramic stone floors with radiant heat, Lutron lighting, Waterworks tile in the bathrooms, a wine storage room, a golf simulator room, an elevator, an indoor basketball court, a steam shower, locker rooms and a massage room. Outside on the 1.45-acre property are a 60-foot outdoor lap pool, a gazebo and a brick driveway with parking for 12 cars.

The 14 Ascension hospitals in Illinois will now operate under Ascension Illinois, instead of Amita, and their names will change accordingly. For example, AMITA Health Alexian Brothers Medical Center Elk Grove Village will now be known as Ascension Alexian Brothers, and AMITA Health Resurrection Medical Center Chicago will now simply be called Ascension Resurrection.

The Obama-era standards automatically adjusted for changes in the type of vehicles people are buying. When they were enacted in 2012, 51% of new vehicle sales were cars and 49% SUVs and trucks. Last year, 77% of new vehicle sales were SUVs and trucks, which generally are less efficient than cars.

Boosterism and optimism aside, the effort would require a major organizational feat to pull off, and though officials proclaim an estimated economic boost of $150 million, economists have long been skeptical of such figures. They point to security costs, displacement of regular tourism and business and note that those estimates often include spending that would happen regardless.

In the long run, however, state officials say the deal is good for taxpayers, who would otherwise bear the full cost of needed upgrades to the 17-story glass-and-steel structure — estimated at $325 million — or of purchasing or leasing other office space in the central business district.
