This fall, CPS will have 16,020 preschool seats available, the district said in a news release. For the 2020-21 school year, private preschools in Chicago served more than 54,000 children, according to Private School Review, which compiles school-reported enrollment data from private schools across the nation. But the financial burden of losing enrollment, plus the increased cost of caring for infant children, has left many child care centers hastening to adjust their model to account for losing students to CPS pre-K.
“We are eager for the next step in the designation process, which includes the state forwarding the nomination on to the National Park Service,” Lisa DiChiera, director of advocacy for Landmarks Illinois, said in the statement. “However, we are aware of the state’s opposition to the nomination and stand ready with our preservation partners to evaluate a possible appeals process if the state does not take this action.”
In 1924, the Grant Park Municipal Stadium opened and one year later was was renamed Soldier Field at the request of the Chicago Gold Star Mothers. The stadium has hosted rodeos, music festivals, prep football games, the first Special Olympics and more before becoming the home of the Chicago Bears in 1971. The lawsuit, filed on behalf of Chicago residents Micah Uetricht, Marianela D’Aprile and John Kaderbek, alleges the agreement bars both active regulation by the city over the rates charged by Chicago Parking Meters, as well as competitive bidding for other vendors to provide the service more efficiently, in violation of federal antitrust laws.

Forrester analyst J.P. Gownder said the aesthetic, user-friendly improvements reflect CEO Satya Nadella’s promise to build products that people will “love,” not tolerate, though Gownder questioned whether Windows 11 is truly a new generation of software. The fact that it is built on the same core code base as Windows 10 might actually be a good thing, he added, because it could avoid the technical glitches that plagued the release of Windows Vista in 2007.
Google’s decision to move its Chicago offices from River North in late 2015 and create an expanded Midwest operation there is seen as one of the biggest factors in property values that soared in the years to follow. Google now leases about 386,000 square feet in the building and about 500,000 square feet total in Fulton Market. The company has more than 1,300 employees in Chicago.
