The Office of Labor Standards, which was created in 2019 to enforce the city’s minimum wage, paid sick time and anti-wage theft laws, recently completed an investigation into Tri City Foods, a Downers Grove-based company that bills itself as the second-largest franchisee in the Burger King restaurant chain. Alerted by an employee, investigators found that Tri City Foods allegedly failed to grant paid sick leave to 2,473 employees at 40 Burger King locations in Chicago between July 2017 and November 2020, the city said.
A: Well, I think that Robinhood has become synonymous with retail investing and the individual investor in America, and with that comes good things and the downsides of it as well. You hear “Robinhood investors,” and that’s kind of become the new term for retail investors. So I think it’s a positive thing, that helps get the brand out there. But whenever there’s criticism for the industry, since we represent it, we to some degree have to answer to it.
“This decision was not taken lightly, but the rapid increase in new COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations requires us to be especially proactive at a time when highly-effective vaccines are widely available,” said Dan Fulwiler, president and CEO of Esperanza, in a news release. “Preserving the health of our personnel, patients and employees is our top responsibility and we believe this measure will help us better protect our families and communities.”
At Ascend by MOCA on West Ohio Street in River North, the dispensary has stocked up on bestselling items including prerolls, chillums, vapes, flower and edibles, as these products are “most fitting for the concert experience,” said Chris Melillo, chief revenue officer for Ascend Wellness Holdings, a New York-based multistate cannabis company that owns the dispensary.
Let’s get this out of the way: The lake can be cold. You snap on a pair of water shoes on a warm summer day and step gingerly into the clear Lake Superior waters of Madeline Island’s Big Bay. Edging ever deeper, though, is a process. You inhale sharply with every step, advancing to your waist, your chest, your shoulders — and finally, full submersion. But once your body adjusts to the shock, the feeling is completely invigorating. Curative. As summer vacation returns with a vengeance, the Midwest’s best beaches will provide a no-frills escape this year. These aren’t the Gulf Stream waters, and this certainly isn’t the Caribbean. But from the Great Lakes to the 10,000 Lakes, the best beaches of the “North Coast” are collectively like our Caribbean. So don’t let the coastal elites tell you that the Midwest has no beaches. They have no idea. Here, we share 12 of our favorites. By Simon Peter Groebner and Kerri Westenberg, Star Tribune Jun 28, 2021
The sale brings to a close an 11-year effort by seller Russ Rosenzweig to sell the five-bedroom, 4,500-square-foot Art Moderne-style mansion, which was built in 1938 and sold by Rebori to shoe heiress and sculptor Lillian Florsheim in 1946. Constructed as a single-family house with a separate guesthouse, the mansion was expanded in the 1950s by Goldberg, who was Florsheim’s son-in-law. Goldberg designed a link between the two structures in the form of a long, galley-style kitchen that now provides indoor access to both the kitchen and the guesthouse. Of late, the mansion has been used as a single-family house and as a bed-and-breakfast inn.
The uptick in ride-share prices was enough to convince Mike Morgan and his wife, Elena, to rely on the “L to get around the city on a recent trip from California, though it sometimes meant waking up earlier. But midmorning one weekday they were running late, and took a ride-share the roughly 1 mile from their hotel to Navy Pier. The cost: $15.
The Fed’s most important inflation measure, Powell stressed, is what it calls “inflation expectations” — what businesses and consumers expect prices to do in the coming months and years. Expectations are important because they can be self-fulfilling: If companies expect their costs to rise, say, 3%, they are likely to raise their own prices by the same amount.
Those who qualified for Thursday’s lottery for 55 licenses came from a pool of 937 unique applicants who submitted more than 4,500 applications, Hutchinson said. They qualified by earning at least 85% of the maximum score — rather than having to have a perfect score, as occurred in the initial scoring round last year.
