The spike in ambulances, and its effects on U. of I. Hospital’s ER, shouldn’t surprise anyone, say community advocates and leaders. It’s exactly the type of thing that happens when community hospitals, such as Mercy, close their doors or scale back services — an increasingly common occurrence in Illinois, especially in brown and Black communities, said Deborah Harris, former executive director of Action Now Institute, which works to empower Black families on the city’s West and South sides.

Last week, Allstate announced it closed the sale of Allstate Life Insurance Company of New York to Wilton Re for about $400 million. In January, Allstate agreed to sell its broader Allstate Life Insurance Co. to Blackstone for $2.8 billion, which is expected to close this year, pending regulatory approval.
Built in 2009, the house has 5½ bathrooms, three fireplaces, oak herringbone floors, crown moldings, other millwork, a family room with a fireplace and a primary bedroom suite with side-by-side walk-in closets and a fireplace.
