Twitter was caught up in the heated political atmosphere leading up to the 2020 election, particularly when it banned former President Donald Trump following his incitement of the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol. Dorsey defended the move, saying Trump’s tweets after the event resulted in a risk to public safety and created an “extraordinary and untenable circumstance” for the company. Trump sued the company, along with Facebook and YouTube, in July for alleged censorship.

In spring 2019, lawmakers in Springfield were finalizing the details of gambling legislation that ultimately would legalize sports betting and create casino licenses for Chicago, Waukegan, the south suburbs and three other locations. At the same time, Bond, then CEO of Tap Room Gaming, was working to elect a slate of supportive aldermen to the nine-member Waukegan City Council.
In an open letter to Edelman posted online, more than 100 “creators, experts, and advocates” urged the PR firm to drop ExxonMobil and other fossil fuel clients, saying it is “actively contributing to fossil-fuel emissions through its marketing activities.” The group said several private conversations with Edelman to drop fossil fuel clients “led nowhere,” prompting the public appeal.

Michael Johnston, 38, who co-founded the music service Audiotree, is facing a felony charge of unauthorized taping. He and his wife, Kelly Johnston, are also accused in a lawsuit filed by the two women of causing them extreme distress by secretly taping them. Johnston was also president of Lincoln Hall and Schubas Tavern.
The 5,653-square-foot house has 5½ bathrooms, four fireplaces, an indoor gym, an oversized office with built-ins, a family room with a floor-to-ceiling brick fireplace and a wet bar, a generator, a lower level with a wet bar, and a kitchen with a Thermador five-burner stove.
Business interests, however, have been divided over the plan. The Illinois Manufacturers’ Association offered its support, with President and CEO Mark Denzler saying in a statement that “These incentives will encourage economic investment, allowing us to keep and grow good-paying manufacturing jobs in an exciting and flourishing industry.”
