“Throughout the pandemic, I’ve been committed to following public health protocols,” Whitmer said in a statement Sunday. “Yesterday, I went with friends to a local restaurant. As more people arrived, the tables were pushed together. Because we were all vaccinated, we didn’t stop to think about it. In retrospect, I should have thought about it. I am human. I made a mistake, and I apologize.”

At the hearing, a prosecutor said Longstreet threw water at the woman, punched her and threw her to ground before retrieving a gun, pointing it at her and threatening to kill her. He then fired multiple shots into the group, with a bullet piercing the woman’s liver and lodging under her heart, the prosecutor said.

“Dogs in their perfect world would just be sitting on your laps, and that’s really what they did for a year,” said Betsy Puterbaugh, co-owner of Yuppy Puppy, a dog day care, boarding and grooming business in Lake Bluff. “No matter what you do, you’re about to mess up their perfect world.”

They would still be able to move Markkanen as part of a sign-and-trade if they found a willing team. If they don’t need to clear cap room for a major free-agent signing, this seems likely to be their best route, even if it’s underwhelming to bring back most of the same group that produced such a disappointing finish.
