Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s office was organizing the events — which will include music, films, food and cultural heritage celebrations — with the city’s Cultural Affairs and Special Events Department. The mayor planned to make an announcement later Monday with more information, including artist lineups, according to a news release.
“I wish as a player, and just someone who loves the game, that whatever’s going on, there should be less chatter publicly,” A-Rod said. “Let the front office and let central baseball, the commissioner’s office, figure it out, give the instructions and let everyone follow through. I think all the conversation and chatter back and forth is not productive and does not help the game.”

They could re-engage in a move for Ball, depending on his price tag. Dennis Schröder, Goran Dragic and Spencer Dinwiddie, if he declines his player option, could be unrestricted free agents. A few talented veterans such as Paul, Kyle Lowry and Mike Conley could be on the open market, although they likely would have suitors ready to contend for a championship. Or the Bulls could try to work out a trade for someone such as the Boston Celtics’ Kemba Walker.
Smith died at the scene. State investigators said Smith’s passenger, a 27-year-old woman, was treated for injuries from glass debris. The woman, however, said she never saw a gun on Smith or in the vehicle, her attorneys said last week — contradicting investigators’ claims about Smith’s actions.
Officers were called to the 100 block of North Lake Shore Drive — not far from the intersection of North Wabash Avenue and West Randolph Street — to investigate the shooting about 10:20 p.m., police said in an online media notice. The security guard had been in an argument with the 34-year-old when the guard “drew his weapon and discharged it,” hitting the older man at least once in his abdomen.

“Some of our parents lost their jobs, and are no longer working, and others are afraid to have their children return to school,” Sanavongxay said. “But we also have many families here who have been working the whole time at grocery stores, factories, and fast food restaurants, and they have been back at school since (last summer).”
