CVS: Starting June 1, people who get vaccinated by the chain can enter its #OneStepCloser Sweepstakes. Thousands of prizes will be awarded through weekly drawings for six weeks. Prizes will include 50 gifts of $500 and five gifts of $5,000 for family reunions; 100 weeklong cruises for two on Norwegian Cruise Line; five trips for two to Bermuda; a trip for two to the Super Bowl; and 500 gift cards worth $100 each for couples to go on dates, among other rewards. People ages 18 and older who get vaccinated by CVS during the six-week-long sweepstakes, who register to get vaccinated at CVS, or who have already been vaccinated by CVS are eligible to enter.

Through May 23, 239 people were slain in Chicago, a jump of about 22% over the same time last year, when there were 196 homicides, according to official Chicago Police Department statistics. Total shooting victims also were up by double digits, with 1,295 people nonfatally or fatally struck by gunfire compared with 940 last year, an increase of roughly 38%, the statistics through May 23 show.

A sheriff’s deputy spotted Bahena Rivera, who worked at a local dairy farm, driving the distinctive vehicle the next day. Under the timeline for the currently scheduled March 15, 2022 primary, candidates could begin circulating their nominating petitions to appear on the ballot at the end of August, with filing set to begin on Nov. 22. If lawmakers don’t approve a congressional map until sometime in the fall, as expected, that would leave little time to qualify for the ballot under the current timetable.
The study, led by Maggie Hickey, a former federal prosecutor and former executive inspector general of Illinois, found multiple criticisms of Mapes, including accusations of enforcing unwritten policies he made up on the spot, yelling and cursing, and making “explicit or indirect threats regarding people’s jobs.”
“I was not given the opportunity to defend myself. I was not given the opportunity to know who this person was that was allegedly offended. I don’t even know her,” he wrote. “I never had any kind of relationship or approach with this person. I didn’t even have a chance to talk to her, to know the real reasons for her pain. That person, an employee, was not protected. I, a sponsored athlete, was not protected.”
