It will add to Amazon’s sizable footprint in Illinois, where the company already has nine fulfillment and sortation centers and eight delivery stations, in addition to other stores and facilities. Last month, Amazon said it has more than 36,000 full- and part-time employees in Illinois, roughly 15,000 of whom were hired in 2020.
“We’re collecting all sorts of information from radar data, to pictures, to even, sometimes, we get personal accounts from people,” Lincoln said. “They tell us about what they saw, how it behaved, how long it took, and we’re collecting all of that information, putting it in one place, and then we’re kind of doing an investigation, basically. Trying to look at all the factors together and coming to a conclusion from that.”
Soon after, about 4 a.m., a car pulled up on the street in front of the house and turned off its lights. Beyer said sobriety tests were not performed on the driver, an ambulance was not called, a detailed report documenting the incident was not completed, and the driver was given a ride to his home 40 miles away in a police vehicle.

Those employees work in offices under the Cook County president, in the County Clerk’s Office, in civilian positions in the Sheriff’s Office, and Cook County Health. About 1,473 of those workers are part of Cook County Health, working at Stroger and Provident hospitals, clinics, and in mental health services at Cermak. They include health care professionals, technicians, technologists, and service and maintenance workers.
