“God bless Zoom and God bless the videos and Microsoft Teams and all the other platforms, Webex, that we’ve been using, but it’s not the replacement,” Fraser said. “I’m concerned around culture in organizations, because we’ve depleted the asset that many companies have of everyone knowing each other, that sense of belonging to an institution, that purpose, that identity, and it’s been lonely for many people.”

Equip for Equality also noted that parent company Sequel Youth and Family Services, a for-profit company, announced closures of 12 facilities since 2019 amid decreasing enrollment that followed from state regulators, disability rights groups and national media following reports of abuse. The company operates more than 50 different facilities across the country, according to its website. The states of California, Maryland, Minnesota, Oregon and Washington no longer send their youth to Sequel facilities, the report states.
