It’s not just a yearbook. It’s not just one school. It’s a pattern of behavior, perpetrated by overzealous, shaming adults, onto children. It’s girls sent home for wearing leggings. Or given school-issued T-shirts to cover their shoulders. It’s girls being told, over and over, that their bodies are distracting and shameful.

Floyd, 46, who was Black, died on Memorial Day 2020 after then-Officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck, pinning him to the ground for about 9 1/2 minutes. Chauvin, who is white, was convicted last month of murder and faces sentencing June 25. Three other fired officers still face trial.

Tuesday, some of Floyd’s family members were meeting with President Joe Biden and with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in Washington, as congressional negotiators remain optimistic about the prospects for a national law enforcement bill, and say they’ve made progress toward an agreement. In Minneapolis, activists and others planned to gather at the intersection where Floyd died for a “Rise and Remember George Floyd” celebration, including a candlelight vigil at 8 p.m., capping several days of marches, rallies and panel discussions about his death and where America is in confronting racial discrimination.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms were forecast to move northeast beginning at 3 p.m. Tuesday, affecting areas northwest of Interstate 55 and the western and northern metro area, said meteorologist Mike Bardou of the weather service’s Chicago-area forecast office. He said there is a 30-40% chance of rain in the afternoon, and any “popcorn” showers may be short-lived. The likelihood of storms will increase through the evening, and thunderstorms were expected after midnight, Bardou added.
Between 9:15 and 10:10 a.m., the Roseland Pumping Station experienced “two power issues” affecting water pressure flowing from the station, the city Water Management Department said in a news release. The exact cause of the outages is under investigation, but Water Department officials are not issuing a boil order due to the “temporary nature” of the outage, according to the release.
In Lakeview, LaVine took a loss on the mansion, which he purchased for $3.25 million in 2018. Built by JDL Construction in 2006, the mansion has five baths, a family room with a stone fireplace and a kitchen with a Lacanche range, a Traulsen refrigerator and freezer and a built-in breakfast area. The primary bedroom suite has a bathroom with dual vanities, a soaking tub, and a walk-through closet with an island and solid wood built-ins.
