The numbers tell only part of the story, but they are staggering. In the state’s long-term care facilities, 25,445 COVID-19 cases and 3,498 deaths were recorded in Cook County. DuPage County had 5,355 cases and 743 deaths, and Lake County had 4,160 cases and 558 deaths, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.
A 26-year-old man was shot in the head, and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. A 25-year-old man suffered a wound to the shoulder, and was taken in fair condition to the same hospital. A 23-year-old man was shot twice in the right arm, and was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. A 21-year-old man was shot in the head, and was taken in critical condition to the University of Chicago. Another 21-year-old man suffered a wound to the shoulder, and was taken in fair condition to Advocate Christ in Oak Lawn. Police later said two people died in the Gresham shooting but did not immediately have information on who was the second deceased victim.
After a six-inning, two-run performance against the Tigers, Arrieta didn’t show signs of being hampered by a cut on his thumb that cost him a start. Dear Former “Lunch Boy”: This is such a moving and well-deserved tribute to some of the lesser-recognized personnel at school – the lunch staff, librarians, bus drivers, band and choral teachers, janitorial staff, administrative assistants, security officers, and student teachers.
On Aug. 18, 2011, the gun was used in another shooting in the 7800 block of South Cregier Avenue. And then it was fired in another shooting about three years later, on July 24, 2014, in the 8000 block of South Manistee Avenue. The weapon was fired again the day before Halloween in 2016 in the 12300 block of South Emerald Avenue.
