Athletes won’t do much mingling with locals at these pandemic-restricted Olympics. If they did, they might not find their body art as welcome. Tattoos remain stigmatized in Japan, where those with them are commonly banned from beaches, gyms, pools and elsewhere around Japan.

Turning to the slot receiver position, if the Bears are going to become more potent offensively, they’re going to need more productive playmakers. Former second-round pick Anthony Miller was cast off to the Houston Texans, and since his arrival Damiere Byrd has been the logical candidate to join Allen Robinson and Darnell Mooney. Byrd had a career-high 47 receptions for 604 yards last season with the New England Patriots and has the quickness and speed to excel in the slot. Byrd could emerge as a nice signing. He won’t be the only option in three-receiver sets, and that’s where it is interesting because playing time will be up for grabs. Byrd should emerge ahead of Riley Ridley, Javon Wims, Marquise Goodwin, Dazz Newsome and others, but keep an eye out for someone excelling in the next several weeks. It’s also worth noting Byrd is probably best working in the slot, which is where Miller operated.

What I mean is that ideally, you would be able to show compassion and concern toward a fellow human being without affirming his reprehensible actions. This is a heavy lift, because others in your circle are not only judging him, but — depending on your behavior — will also judge you. (Your wife, for instance, might judge you harshly for even being in this man’s presence.)

“He’s rested,” La Russa said of Hendriks. “If he wasn’t rested, you couldn’t do it. About 45 minutes later, Powell’s group allegedly accosted a woman trying to withdraw money at a drive-thru ATM on East 95th Street. Powell is accused of ordering the woman to open her driver’s side door, but she was too close to the machine to open it, according to prosecutors. When the woman reversed her vehicle to comply with the request, Powell allegedly fired a shot that exited the dashboard, shattering glass.
