Fewer than half of the wetlands that once existed in the Great Lakes remain, leaving some of the 350 species of birds that rely on the region in search of a home. Along with habitat loss, birds, like other wildlife, must also contend with the fallout from human-caused climate change, lingering pollution and harmful invasive species. In North America alone, there are 29% fewer birds than there were 50 years ago, a 2019 study found.
The 6-foot-2, 194-pound defenseman will kick off his Hawks career by playing in the Tom Kurvers Prospect Showcase against the Minnesota Wild at TRIA Rink at Treasure Island Center in St. Paul, Minn., this weekend. Second-round pick Colton Dach — the younger brother of center Kirby Dach — also will participate in the two-game exhibition.
“He would provide a great boost, just a player of his caliber,” defensive lineman Bilal Nichols said. “I say it time and time again: In my opinion, he’s the best at his position in football. Just having a player like that, it’s always going to give you a boost. Being able to see him back out on the field after such a long time, generally you would be happy for him as a teammate.”
“This is the first time obviously for Maryland to go there to play — which completes us now having been to every team in the Big Ten with an away game,” Locksley said. “It starts Big Ten play for us, which is another season for us, different than the out-of-conference games. It’s a Big Ten opener, national TV audience, so it will be the show.”

In addition to the airfare, which cost nearly $6,000, Maniatis spent another $13,500 to reserve cruise tickets and lodging at La Selva, a spa retreat in the Ecuadorian jungle, for the trio, the affidavit stated.
In a report made public Wednesday, the ethics board said it found probable cause that a public official, who it does not name, directed “a city employee under the official’s supervision to consider and discuss with the official withholding city services to a constituent because the constituent appears to have supported a political opponent of the official.”

In a trash can behind the building, they found “discarded handwritten notes listing the names of deceased persons” as well as the manner in which they died, such as “shot,” “stabbed,” or “fall,” the complaint alleged.
While the Woodfield store’s closure will leave Sears with no department stores in Illinois, Transformco said it has 11 Sears Hometown stores in the state. Those stores carry tools, appliances and lawn and garden equipment and are primarily operated by independent dealers or franchisees. There are more than 300 large and small format Sears and Kmart stores nationwide, Transformco said.
