A core group means only those individuals who were together during an exposure period, and could be limited to a classroom, a sports team, before/after school care, performing arts, or other groups and likely does not apply to the entire school population, IDPH officials said.
“Drivers have been following (pandemic) requirements, following restrictions and so forth,” he said. “Now we’re opening up again, and the sense of freedom that one gets by driving is unique in that we’re compartmentalizing. In other words, we get in our vehicles as drivers, and we feel like we’re separated, or safe from the world.”
Statewide, about 265,000 booster shots have gone into the arms of Illinois residents since Sept. 24, compared with about 143,000 first doses and about 159,000 second doses, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health. The first and second doses include recipients of the Moderna and Pfizer two-dose regimens, as well as the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine; all adults are eligible for these shots, and anyone aged 12 and up can receive the first two doses of the Pfizer vaccine.
