Looking back at more than 135 years of local weather data, Chicago has experienced its first measurable snow as early as October 12 (in 2006) and as late as December 20 (in 2012). That’s why Nov. 17 is the date of the average first significant snowfall in Chicago. Remember, measurable snowfall is one-tenth of an inch or more on the ground, while anything less is considered a trace amount. The chart below shows the date of the first measurable snowfall for each year since 1885. Amounts are available, by year, beginning in 1905.
The report’s findings are a call to transit agencies to expand their focus to communities and other types of employers outside downtown, in addition to downtown office workers, Freemark said. While moving fixed train lines to do so might not be feasible, agencies could improve bus rapid transit, or take advantage of Metra’s existing rail lines, which serve large swathes of the region, by boosting the frequency of service, he said.
“It’s nice to hear but when it comes to those stats, I felt like you can make up a stat with anything nowadays,” Vučević said. “I feel like stats should be, in general, like five, 10, 15, 25, 20, 25 so it’s consistent. I’m glad I played well and I was able to have good all-around game to help us win. But as far as that — it’s nice, but I don’t necessarily care to be the only player to ever do it.”
Illinois’ jobless rate has dropped from its pandemic high of 16.5% to 5.7% in November, according to the most recent federal job numbers for the state. With one of the highest unemployment rates in the country, that’s above the national average of 4.2%. Illinois also consistently ranks among the highest when compared to other states, but fared better than California, which had the highest unemployment rate at 6.9%, Nevada at 6.8% and New York, whose jobless rate was 6.6%.

“I’m the son of a man who was in the Air Force for 26 years,” Freeman said at his Dec. 6 introductory news conference. “I’m the son of a woman who was born in Korea that came over here in 1976, but I tell you that because that’s who I am. I get my discipline, my work ethic, my honesty from my father. I get my unselfishness and other centered focus from my mother, and that’s exactly how I will lead this football program.
“Unfortunately, it took the AIDS epidemic for a lot of people to come out and say, ‘Hey, we deserve rights,’” Tunney said. Whether it’s marriage rights, health, rights, equity rights, access to public health … This is the educational part of it. We really want this epidemic to end.”
“IEPA (the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency), not the governor, is authorized to act on permit applications such as this,” Jordan Abudayyeh, Pritzker’s chief spokeswoman, said about the proposed Lincoln Land gas plant. “In doing so, the IEPA must follow applicable statutory and regulatory provisions governing that process.”

On Jan. 1, the Chicago Police Department, as well as the Cook, DuPage, Will, Kane and Lake county sheriff’s departments, will have to meet the requirement. When contacted by the Tribune, all six departments said they would be able to comply with the law.
