Two Aurora teens are accused of leading Villa Park police on a high-speed chase in a stolen car, officials said.

Around 9:55 a.m. Monday, a Villa Park police officer identified a Honda CR-V that had been reported stolen out of Naperville the previous day traveling eastbound on Roosevelt Road, according to a news release from the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The officer attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the car kept going, at times reaching speeds of more than 100 mph, officials said. The pursuit continued along Interstate 88 and Interstate 290 until the driver exited the expressway at 25th Avenue in Westchester, according to the release.

The CR-V came to a dead end on Derby Lane and stopped. Two teens got out of the vehicle and ran away from police officers, officials said. They were found in a barber shop about a quarter-mile away and were taken into custody, according to the release.

During the arrest, police said they found a loaded Polymer 80 9mm handgun with the serial number removed under a pile of wood along the road. Police allege one of the juveniles tried to hide the gun while running away, officials said.

The juveniles, 15-year-old and 17-year-old boys, appeared in a DuPage County detention hearing Wednesday. Judge Demetrios Panoushis ordered the teens be held until their next court date, which is set for March 30.

The 17-year-old has been charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer and two counts of misdemeanor reckless driving, officials said. The 15-year-old is charged with three counts of unlawful use of a weapon and misdemeanor criminal trespass to a vehicle.
