Local police departments are investigating a “suspicious individual” who tried to gain access to and take tours of several schools in Aurora, Plainfield and Oswego, police officials said Wednesday.
The police departments are teaming to investigate the “suspicious circumstance,” which Aurora police said poses no credible threat to students, faculty or the public.

It was not immediately clear Wednesday which schools, in particular, the individual tried to get into.
Police determined the person had requested tours of several schools but never made any access into a school building. After the request raised concerns, Aurora police spokesman David Guevara said the schools contacted police out of concern.

“We all communicate with one another in the event of a circumstance like this,” Guevara said, adding that’s how the police departments teamed up after learning the individual approached more than one town.
Officials at Central School District 301, which includes schools that serve over 4,300 students living ing Burlington, Lily Lake, portions of Elgin, Campton Hills, St. Charles and other unincorporated Kane County towns, said they are aware of the situation occurring in neighboring communities and do not believe there is any threat at this time.
“When asked about the purpose of the tour, this individual has abruptly left the premises,” SD301 officials said.
Aurora-based Indian Prairie Community Unit School District 204 officials said there were no reports of an individual attempting to enter any one of the district’s 32 schools. The district enrolls about 27,400 students from Aurora, Bolingbrook, Plainfield and Naperville, in DuPage and Will counties.
