For the second day in a row a crew of thieves robbed several victims of their cellphones and belongings overnight on the Near North and Near West sides, Chicago police said.
Police did not say whether the thieves were the same ones who took property and injured several bicyclists and other victims overnight Monday, but the robbers were described as traveling in a silver sedan. On Tuesday night, a crew of at least four traveling in a gray sedan robbed several people in the West Town and Near North neighborhoods.
Shortly before 1 a.m., two men, ages 18 and 26, were standing in the 1800 block of West Chicago Avenue when four armed males got out of a gray sedan and took the victims’ cellphones and money, police said.
At about 1 a.m., a 52-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman were standing on a sidewalk in the 1900 block of West Chicago when four males got out of a gray sedan armed with handguns and announced a robbery. The robbers fled with the woman’s purse, police said.
At 1:05 a.m., robbers struck again in the 2800 block of West Chicago and tried to hold up two men, 36 and 29, but were unsuccessful, police said.
Shortly before 1:15 a.m., the crew robbed two men of their cellphones and wallets while they were standing in the 800 block of North Orleans Street, police said.
The robbery victims from Monday night suffered minor injuries, but no injuries were reported from the Tuesday night holdups, police said.
No one was in custody and detectives were investigating.
