The Adult Learning Cooperative (ALC) hosted its annual High School Equivalency Graduation Ceremony at the Gary Area Career Center on Friday, July, 29. Seven adult graduates from Northwest Indiana completed the state requirements to receive their high school diploma through WDS, Inc. – Adult Learning Cooperative.

“These students have worked at different levels and at different paces, but they all completed their goal,” said Denise Dillard of the WDS Group, Inc. “That’s the great thing about our program; the teachers and the program are here to support and help anyone.”

More than half of the graduates from the program will continue to work with WDS, Inc., through the Career Connection program. Career Connection provides postsecondary opportunities, offering scholarships to higher learning institutions and/or career options through internship programs, apprentice programs, and paid job shadowing experiences.

The 2022 ALC graduates are Christopher Campbell, Terrell Green, Evin Kilgore, Darnell Harris, Khalelah Bailey, Jalen Lee and Jocelyn Sandavol.

Adult Learning Cooperative (ALC) offers a wide variety of classes to obtain a high school diploma. Course options include:

High School Equivalency (HSE) Prep

Students wishing to take their high school equivalency exam are encouraged to take the HSE prep courses and build their skills in Reading, Math, Writing, Science, and Social Studies.

Classes are offered Monday – Thursday during the day and evenings.

Adult Basic Education (ABE)

ABE classes are available for students wishing to improve their skills in Reading, Math, and Writing, for any reason.

Classes are offered Monday – Thursday during the day and evenings.

High School Equivalency (HSE) Fast Track

The HSE Fast Track has various options designed to assist students in preparing for their HSE exam quickly. Students wishing to participate must achieve the required minimum score on their Reading, Math, and Language pre-tests.

The fast track program takes place over eight class sessions (2 weeks) and is offered once a month, Monday – Thursday, during the morning.

Bootcamp is offered during the span of a weekend.

Online Classes

ALC will offer online classes to any students who cannot attend physical classes at the center. Students must reside in the counties we serve.
